Poetry

I completed a task called Poetry. I had to find items around my house and turn them into poems. 

Next I put in a verb with ten letters long. My verb was strengthen.

Mad Libs

My group did an activity called madilibs. We had to write down: a girls name, a kitchen utensil, a colour,  an action you do to someone, a number under 10, a pop star, and an eating utensil.

First, we wrote down a girl name and a kitchen utensil. The girl name was Jessica and the kitchen utensil was a fork.

Next we wrote down a colour and an action you do to someone. The colour was green and the action was a slap.

Then we wrote down a number under 10 and a pop star.. Our number was 5 and the pop star was Michael Jackson. 

Lastly we wrote down an eating utensil. The eating utensil was a spoon.

Typing

I completed a can-do activity called dance typing mat. This activity is used to practise typing withput looking at the keyboard. 

First I went on dance mat typing and put up a 15 minute timer.

Next I placed my fingers in the right place I had to type without looking at the keyboard.. 

To finish up I put in my results into a google slide. Then I wrote in what I need to improve on. 

I need to practise working faster and without looking at the keyboard.




Mad Libs

I enjoyed this task because it can make lots of story to tell your little brothers and sisters

Reasons about Recycling

 We had to write reasons for a persuasive text.

First I chose a topic about recycling. I had to write 5 reasons why we have to recycle. For example: People should recycle more because recycling converts energy.


Next we had to find websites that link with the reason.


Last I wrote another reason about  8 million tons of plastic ending up in our oceans every year. 


I learned a lot about how it reduces ocean pollution and recycling reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills.


SSR Selfie - The Sewer Stink

 I read 20 pages of The Sewer Stinks by Tom Angleberger.

This Story is about a mouse name Geronimo. His friend Herclue wants to go on a mission about the sewer stink.

I agree with Herclue that Gerenimo should go on a mission.



Too Much Technology

We did a synthesis and a QAR with about a persuasive text called Too Much Technology

First  I made a Synthesis template where I wrote my prior knowledge, my new information, and my new understanding. Prior knowledge is something you already know, new information is something new that you learnt, and new understanding is something you now understand.


Next we did a QAR task.  We had to answer the questions and put it in one of the boxes.  The boxes were: Right there, Think and search, Author and me, and On my own


I learned a lot about this activity because I used my reading skills to answer the questions.

Skip Counting and Repeated Addition

Repeating addition and skip counting are strategies for multiplication and divison.

Skip counting is counting up or counting down by a certain number using addtion.
Here's a Problem Sam has seven, 5 doller notes how much money does he have all together?. 
5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35. The answer is 35 dollars because if you skip counted in fives 7 times the answer is 35.    

Repeated Addition is repeating a the same number using addition.For example 7+7+7+7+7=35. Here's a problem Mike was at the beach for five days he collected 14 sea shells every day to keep how many shells does he have in total?  14 +14 +14 +14 +14 =70 the answer is 70 because 14 is added 5 times.                                                                    

I learnt a lot about skip counting and repeated addition.

Persuasive Speech, Brain Storming

We had to brainstorm ideas to persuade someone.

First we watch a video about brainstorming ideas. 

Next I had to write 5 ideas about 3 different texts. The 3 different texts were yourself, the school, and the world.

Lastly we had to highlight the ideas that we know a lot and we don't know that much about. red means that you don't know much about yellow means that you don't know that much about and green means that you know a lot about.

The experience was amazing because I brainstormed ideas that will give me ideas to make a persuasive writing.

PBS vs Olympics

We compared the Olympics with our school (Panmure Bridge)

First we completed an activity which was called This vs That. We compared the Olympics' creed, motto, values, and flags with our schools (Panmure Bridge. An example for the Olympic motto is Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together.


Next we made slides to write the similarities and differences about the Olympics and our school.


To finish up we made a logo that represents ourselves.  


The experience was amazing because I learnt lot about the differences between PBS and Olympics.

Statistical Investigation

 We did a statistical investigation.

First we went on our blog to see how many blog posts a month we had. to see how many blog posts a month we had.. We added up the blog post from January to July 


Next we made a bar graph and pie chart to show how many blog posts there are.


Lastly we made a statement about the amount of blog posts  we had to state about how high or low it is. 


The experience was amazing because we used a bar graph and pie chart to see the amount of blog posts in the group.

Addition and Subtraction

 Addition and Subtraction can be solved by using two strategies: counting on and back, rounding, and compensating.

Counting on is adding forward using fingers, when the number is added is under ten. Counting back is subtracting using fingers, when the number is under ten.

Rounding and compensating is rounding the added or subtracted number to the nearest tidy number, then compensating for the rounding. Compensating is done by spitting the new number into the old number and the leftover.

Counting on/back and rounding and compensating are easy strategies to use for addition and subtraction, when numbers get too big to be solved with basic facts.

Party Popper

My group, Applemelon created party poppers with the same design.

First dissucusd what the design we should come up with. we drew our design on a piece of paper. We stick our design on a cup.


Next we added a hole to the bottom of our cup. so we can put the rubber band through the hole. we used a tooth pick to stop the rubber band from coming out.


Last we added the filling. we used 15 small pom poms and 15 glitter sticker. each person had 5 pom poms and 5 glitter sticker. 


The experience was amazing because it helped me to work as a group better. The party popper worked well.

SSR Selfie Ninja Kid

  I read 27 pages of Ninja Kid 2.

Party Popper Prototype

My group, Applemelon made a prototype for a party popper.


In the beginning, we discussed the different parts of the model. For example, we used a long rubber band instead of the thick rubber band. We figured out that a long rubber band has more force than the thick rubber band.


Next we tested the prototype. We discussed that we should use pom poms for the filling.


To finish up we used a nut for the striker so the pompoms can explode out of the cup. We thought about what we needed to change to make it better. 


I learned a lot about prototype and modeling

Temperature and Capacity

I measured temperature and capacity.  

I first did my measurements on capacity I filled up the cylinders with water using 2 large and 2 small measuring cylinders. 

My measurements were 140 ML, 80 ML, 14 ML, and 8 ML. 

After that I did my temperature measurements. I used thermometers to check the temperatures. I filled up 2 lunch boxes hot and cold and measured the temperature. My Tempertures were 12°C, and 30°C.

I need to improve in reading litre because it looked like 36 ML instead of 30 ML.

Revision

 We did revistion about all the things we did during the term. 

First we played a memory game that involves saying the maori words like fruits. They are apple banna and apple juice.

Next  I answered questions in Maori. I used the Maori dictionary to help. Some of the questions were: Kei hea to hoa? which means where is your friend.

I enjoyed this task because I answered all the questions and got them all correct.

Title and Introduction

 We wrote 3 introductions.

My first introduction was a basis fact. A basic fact is something that is true. Airplanes fly by using a force called lift, thrust, and drag. 

My next Introduction was a question hook. question hook is when you ask the reader something that they don't know. Have you ever wondered how an airplane flies?  Airplane flies using lift, thrust, and drag.

I learnt about skimming and scanning. We used skimming and scaning to read a text.

Chronology means an order in time that event is occured. We used the learning skill called skimming and scanning. Skimming is like an airplane and skipping through the text to find a keyword, Scanning is like a helicopter and stop to look at that specific paragraph or information that you need.

First we used skimming to look a pictures to figure out how they would connect.

Next we used skimming to find keywords and scanning to find facts in chronological order.

I enjoyed this activity because I used skimming and scanning to read the text.

Lengths

My group, Addition and I measured different object lengths in the classroom.

First we measured different object lengths for example a chromebook.

Next we wrote the measurment of the objects length in millimetres (mm).

Lastly we took photos of the objects on the slides.

I found this activity hard because measuring objects with a ruler is hard.

Balancing

We learned how to balance while throwing and catching frisbees.


First we threw frisbees to each our partner and we tried our best to land without moving.

Then our partner called out go and we ran to catch the frisbee. We also tried our best to land in the a direction.

Lastly we played a game called ultimate frisbee with the skills we learnt. We got into 2 teams and threw the frisbee into the goal without stepping into the shooting circle and also their was 2 frisbees

This was fun beacause I learnt the techniques of throwing frizbee.

Maori Sentences - Question and Answer

I continued writing diiferent Maori sentences.

First I looked what was the object and where it has to be placed.

Next I had to write sentences using roto, runga, and raro. For example Kei hea te mereni? Kei roto i te pureti which is - where is the melon? It is on the plate.

I think I need to practice more because I don't always understand how to answer the question correctly.

Party Popper

We were markting about toys. 

First we looked at a design from Mr Wong, his design was a party popper. He then told us to make a plan about a party poper.

Next, we listed the parts of the design. Our market was kindergarden aged children. The parts were plastic cup, rubber bands, folded paper, confitti, and a tooth pick. 

We then did the updated design. This was about what changes we want to change. Our group changed the cup into a paper cup, the paper into a thicker paper, the confitti is the same, and the tooth pick is the same. 

Lastly did the rational. We had to give the reason in why we chose it. We did the rational about our updated designs.

I enjoyed this task because my group completed this task

Coding

We learnt the four basic turns which are 1/4, 1 half turn, 3/4, and 1 full turn. The 2 direction are clockwise and anti clockwise.

 

Table Mat Information

 We used skimming and scanning based on a text. 

First we read a text this text was called The Paralympic Games. It talk about who score the the swimming record and what are the Paralympics Games. We used skimming and scanning on the books.  Skimmming means to be like an airplane. You rush down the page looking for keywords. Scanning is like an helicoptor, you can stop and hover focusing on the piece of text.  

Next, we did the table mat activity. We had to find keywords and define 1 of them. Then we then switched chrome books with eachother and checked our work.

Lastly we did the what I would ask and the key questions. Key questions are questions the author thought about before writing the book.

I enjoyed this activity because I get to skim and scan through the text.

SSR Selfie - 101 Cool Magic Tricks

 I read 30 pages of 101 Cool Magic Tricks the author was Barb Whiter.

I learnt that you can make a coin disappear by using a coin a pencil and a table.

I dislike this book because I don't understand the text.



Planning

I did an explanation topic planner. I did 3 topics.

My first topic is about how airplane fly. We had to put in the 3 or 4 or 5 mechinisims, the cause and effect and where we got the information. In my mechinisims I put, lift, thrust, and drag. My cause and effect was The airplane flies because they are able to generate a force called lift  

My next topic is about how a bike work. My mechanisms was wheel, gear, brakes, pedal, and steering. My cause and effect was The brake are connected to a cable which connected to a wheel therefore the pressure from the humans make it stop.

My last topic was about how engines work. My mechanisms was gas, spark plug, crankshaft, and piston. My cause and effect was The piston keeps on pumping so the power gets turned on.

This was hard because I couldn't think of the information sources.

Mechanisms

 We learned how to write an explanation using mechanisms.

First, we wrote a mechanism for how chocolate is made.When the ingredients are combined and melted, they make a liquid.


Next, we wrote another mechanism. If you use a mold it will shape the liquid.  You then cool it so it will set. The finished chocolate is in the shape of the mold you used and sets when it is cooled.


Next we wrote a mechanism for how fireworks work. Gunpowder is packed in a very tiny space as a result it burns really fast. Potassium is the most important part of gunpowder. This is what propels the fireworks into the sky. The fuse is set alight and as it burns it ignites the gun powder. This happens slowly so you have time to move away from the firework anf thertefore you can stay safe.


Next time, I should work on my mechanisms.

Reciprocal Reading

We did reciprocal reading on a PDF called what we ate. 

The five roles are leader, predictor, clarifier, questioner and summariser. The PDF is about what soldiers ate during the war. They ate: bully beef, jam, canned fruit and vegetables, lack of vitamin c, hard biscuits and water.

The most helpful role was summarizer because they help the group remember what happened in the story




Next we read another PDF called where we lived. This text is talking about where the soldier lived and the curreny in 1914.

The most helpful role was the questioner because it unpacked lots of questions that we couldn't understand during the text.



Calendar Reading

Step 1: Get a calendar.

Step 2: Circle the date.

Step 3: Write the day. 

Step 4: Write the date that you circled.

Step 5: Write the month.

Step 6: Wirte the year.



Introduction

I learnt how to write a hook in an introduction.

First, we watched a video that explains hook of an introduction and what a introduction is. Then we did a hook about Mr Oglivie.

Next, we worte an introduction and a hook about three different topics. Did you know that it takes 400 coca beans to make one pound of chocolate. There are 4 mechanisms on how chocolate are made. They are cocoa beans, cocoa butter, sugar, milk powder of alternative milk. The process can take up to eight days. depending on the species of cocoa bean.

Then, we wrote an introduction and a hook about fireworks. Did you know that the largest ever firework display was in Thunder Over Louisville? Firework use gunpowder, metal salt and strontium carbonate (red firework). When they mix togerther it makes a loud bang.

Lastly, we wrote an introduction and a hook about the life cycle of a butterfly. Did you know that female butterflies lay their eggs under a lear or plant? The life cycle of a butterfly takes 28 days to 32 days. Butterflies have four stages of life. They are: eggs, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly.

I think I should work on my hook and introductions to add more information.

Balancing

Today I learnt how to balance by using sport equipment. We had five stations with a different sport equipment.

First I went to my first station which was hockey. I had to balance while hitting the ball. I figured out that my right leg was easier while balancing and left leg was harder. This challenge was easy. I don't need to work on my balance.

Then I went to the next station which was the frizbee. This was hard because I had to stand on one leg while passing across the body. 


Next I went to the basketball activity. I had to dribble the ball then pass it to our partner on one leg. This activity was hard because I kept losing my balance.

After I went to the netball activity. I had to throw a netball back and forth between eachother while standing on one leg. This was easy because I just had to balane on one leg and pass it to each other.

Lastly we used the rugby equipment. We passed by standing on the side and passing across the body.
This was easy because I was balancing very well so I could catch the ball.










Maori Directions & Kitchen Labels

I learnt the Maori directions that can help me in the classroom.

First we did an activity, we had to label 10 kitchen items in maori I thought of microwave, oven, and knife.

I used maori dictionary to help me label the kitchen items. 

Lastly we learnt runga which means up and raro which means down. Kei runga i te pukapuka which means It's on the book.

I enjoyed this task because it help me pronouce the kitchen labels.

Reciprocal Reading

 This week we did reciprocal reading to read the text "Maori Pioneer Battalion".

In reciprocal reading there is a Leader, Predictor, Clarifier, Questioner, and a Summariser.

The Leader has to assign the roles to the group and introduced the author and the text.

The Predictor has to tell what is going to happen next.

The Clarifier has identify tricky words and phrases.

The Questioner ask questions about why it happened

The Summariser thinks about the main ideas in the section we have read.

I enjoyed doing reciprocal reading, my favourite role is the clarifier because I can identify the words.


The 3 Similar Simple Machines

The three similar simple machines are the incline plane, lever, and wedge. Simple Machines help people to do work easily and quickly.

We used cause and effect to explain the life cycle of a butterfly.

First thing we did is put the explaination about the life cycle of a butterfly 

Next we wrote the cause and effect sentences on the first stage - Eggs. 

Then we wrote the cause and effect sentences on the second stage - Caterpillar.

After we wrote the cause and effect sentences on the third stage - Chrysalis. 

Lastly we wrote the cause and effect sentences on the last stage - Butterfly 

This was easy because I learn the life cycle butterfly.
